Overview:
Sagina procumbens, commonly known as Irish Moss, is a low-growing, moss-like groundcover valued for its dense, cushiony mats of tiny green leaves. Although it is not a true moss, its lush, carpet-like appearance makes it a favourite for naturalistic indoor displays.
In the right conditions, this plant may produce small white, star-shaped flowers that add a delicate detail to its soft green foliage. Its compact growth and spreading habit make it ideal for terrariums, paludariums, and creative planting arrangements.
Care and Growth:
Sagina procumbens prefers bright, indirect light but adapts well to partial shade. Avoid strong direct sunlight, which can scorch or dry out the foliage.
Keep the soil consistently moist, as Irish Moss enjoys cool, damp conditions. Avoid waterlogging, as poor drainage can lead to root issues. In drier indoor environments, occasional misting helps maintain healthy growth.
